Dehradun.  A day after 12-year-old Vasu Yadav, a boarding school student in Dehradun, was beaten to death by his seniors with cricket bats and wickets, new information was received in the case. The case has numbed the education fraternity in Dehradun and this is the second brutal crime being reported in a short span of time as earlier this month, the gangrape of a minor girl in another boarding school was reported.

As per a report in the Times of India, the incident came into light on Wednesday evening, a day after the crime and more details in the case emerged after the police investigated the matter. Reportedly, in a bid to hush up the matter, after doctors declared the victim dead, the management of the school hurriedly buried the boy's body inside the school campus without even sending the body for post-mortem or even informing the child's parents about the same.

Nivedita Kukreti, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun, told TOI that the boy was beaten brutally in a classroom by two of his seniors, both studying in Class 12 of the same school. The accused allegedly tortured the boy in phases and then poured cold water on him.

She further mentioned that the body of the boy was left in the classroom for a few hours till he was found by the hostel warden late in the evening. Moreover, During the investigation it was found that there were several faults on the school's part as the deceased was not only taken very late to the hospital that led to his death, but also the staff members tried to hide the incident and did not report it to police.

Meanwhile, the intervention of Usha Negi, chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for protection of Child Rights, led to the case coming to light as the school management has tried all possible attempts in order to cover up the incident. She further claimed that the school authority didn't even bother to inform the parents about the death of their child.Subsequently, a case been registered against three staff members— the hostel manager, warden and sports teacher—under Section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) while the two boys have been booked under section 302(murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
